This film will try to reflect the habits and customs of the society and the modern life in a panoramic 16:9 mirror by observing the life of August Dirks out from all conventionalisms.
August, captain of the old theater boat "The ship of fools" tell us how he sees the world turning upside down. He shows us his own world and life on the sea. He sails without an adress with the winds and the stars, he owns a free republic going from town to town.
I have followed August and the fools for almost four years, documenting their adventures and their way of living, beeing myself one of them, a fool. By doing this I have realized that we humans are slaves from ourselves and from the modern life construction. I was a fool in the ship when I first joinned them in Spain going to Amsterdam, where we stayed for two years preparing to cross the ocean and I am a fool now. I have been documenting the theater of the slavery they did in Paramaribo, Suriname. But they keep going and me, I have stopped to show the world what my eyes have seen.
Among hours and hours of footage, I will keep focused on the speech of captain August and the boat as a human itself., contrasting the life on the sea and the arts with the "normal life "we have been teached at schools... We will see this character during the present time but also on the past, with the old footage he has been collecting from 25 years now. We will go further untill Suriname, old Dutch colonny, rescuing the old slavery conflict with the Netherlands. and trying to clarify circumstances.
